I really want Dumba on the Flames, but I strongly agree the Wild should not trade him. This off-season will be crazy.

I still think the best spot for Letang would be Ottawa. Lots of cap room to give the Pens some relief, and gets into their offensive minded system.
Although him on the Caps would be interesting. |

Ottawa's thinking has to be long-term right now. They're probably not a playoff team for another three or four years as their prospects start filing in and as other Atlantic teams start to their demise. Letang is a short-run player for now and given his limited clause I also doubt OTT is on his list.
If Letang was to be moved, as EK stated there's zero chance the Pens want to help the Caps, but I think they'd deal with MTL.
Letang isn't going anywhere.

There's a handful of teams that should strongly consider a rebuild and MIN is one of them. There's a couple of nice prospects, but nothing super exciting going on in their system. Some decent pieces on D, but their forward group is just mediocre and/or aging fast.
They could stockpile a good amount of assets for some of these guys. Retain money on some crappy contracts to get good futures. Suck for a few years and do it right.
Other teams that should either rebuild or do a MAJOR re-tool on the fly are ANA and SJ.
If they retained 50% on Suter and Parise, they could easily get a 1st rounder for each of them. Probably late first rounders to playoff teams, but still. |

Serious question Ek. How many of the GMs do you regularly chat with? I assume some don't make time for online bloggers (ie I can't see Yzerman answering his phone and chatting with you about rumours)...but it sounds like some do. So is it like 50% of the GMs that chat with you?
Also curious about agents. I knew a guy who worked in Rich Winter's office. He said it was crazy. Non-stop calls/meetings so pretty sure there isn't time to chat with the public. But maybe you are connected with smaller agents who aren't as busy.
Legit questions.
P.S. This Letang news is pretty big! Good intel here. Maybe to Toronto? |

I never said it would happen, I do think Ottawa is a good idea, Pens get cap relief thats badly needed. Letang gets to be the main guy for a few years and help the young D core develop with Chabot, Bran, etc and when his contract is up there's the option to signing or go somewhere else...
it's kinda a Win-Win-Win
The Caps is very not likely but I think Letang on the back end with Ovi, Kuzy, Backs, Wilson, etc.... would be a huge offensive powerhouse.
I still think the Caps regret trading Nisk and even Green (although he was on the decline) |

Doubt the leafs have what Minn would want for Dumba. Nylander is probably too old if they're rebuilding. Suter at 50% retained for a first (probably +) would something I'd like to see though. |

Nylander just turned 24 in May. How is that too old for a rebuilding team featuring Suter, Parise, Staal all at 35+? |

He's "only" 33 so I gave him a break. Haha.
I would suggest Dumba and Rask for RNH and Russell. Gives Minny a top 6 center and a warm body on D who expires after this season. So they can protect Brodin in the expansion draft.
Oilers upgrade their D by adding Dumba and dumping Russell. Rask gives them a competent 3C. Dollars are equal. More importantly, adding Dumba allows the Oilers to deal someone like Nurse or Larsson for a top 6 winger that they desperately need. A package including Nurse for Nylander might work for both the Oilers and Leafs.
P.S. I don't have sources. I simply watch the games. Also aspiring to be the Coyotes blogger. |

Just figured if you're shipping out Dumba then you're probably going for the scorched earth method. Nylander adds offense during a time when they probably don't really want it and by the time they're good, Nylander will be UFA. My guess would be that they would want to max out on picks/prospects for him.

But Minny actually isn't in such a bad situation. The only reason Dumba is being traded is because of expansion draft planning. They have to protect Suter and Spurgeon, meaning either Dumba or Brodin get exposed. Hence the Dumba trade rumours.
Up front, Koivu is gone. Staal is gone in a year. They have some good young talent in Fiala, Greenway, Eriksson Ek, Kunin, Donato. All age 22-24. So Nylander would fit right in with that core. Some nice prospects on the way as well. But they do need 1-2 impact forwards. If they can add that over the next 2-3 years as these other contracts expire then its a decent contender. No need to blow anything up. |
